Accounting – Community Service – Consulting – Finance – Marketing – Professional Development – Financial Markets Institute

Accounting

The Accounting Committee not only offers an introdution to the basic principles of accounting, but also an opportunity to develop professional and personal skills that will be useful in any career path our CMs choose to go into. These topics will be covered over the course of the semester in our three events: Accounting 101 Workshop, Excel Workshop, and Intro to Personal Taxes. Our goal is to provide all members with knowledge and a well-rounded understanding of the accounting profession and the various careers available as well as develop and strengthen the necessary skills for interviewing, networking, and searching for any career path.

Community Service

The Community Service Committee is focused on the intersection of professional life and social change, particularly through nonprofit organizations and making changes in a corporate setting. Members are able to learn and explore various topics including, how the nonprofit sector operates, corporate social responsibility, and how to get more involved in social change while pursuing career advancement. Finally, in the process of preparing for the Donation Competition and the CSR workshop events, Community Service committee members will gain experience in various important skills in teamwork, slidedecking, public speaking, and more.

Consulting

The Consulting Committee serves as a consultant development sector, transitioning from its pre-existing project-focused identity. We place an emphasis on fostering competency in the consulting space by providing direct training on case interviews, slide decking, project research, and a myriad of other relevant professional skills. The consulting committee will guide committee members as they accumulate this knowledge and provide the opportunity to work on a client project, fulfilling the Consulting Committee’s mission to develop a professionally equipped and able consultant.

Finance

The Finance Committee assists in the professional, educational, and social development of individuals interested in finance by equipping them with the proper skills needed in the finance industry. This includes the essential soft skills needed for networking, along with the technical knowledge needed to understand finance. CM’s will develop skills to help them excel in both their personal and private lives through events like an investment portfolio competition, a finance careers workshop, and more. The Finance Committee will also give CMs access to finance professionals from all different sectors to learn about the many paths one can take post-graduation, allowing CMs to discover, pursue, and become a knowledgeable analyst in that field.

Marketing

The Marketing Committee skillfully blends the analytical elements of business while uniquely incorporating a creative aspect to it as well. This committee will help CMs not only develop upon their existing potential but also move toward launching their professional career. Throughout the semester CMs will be offered opportunities for a significant number of workshops and events. These opportunities will train CMs regarding the networking and design-based elements of marketing as well as the logistical background of the industry. All in all, MarkeTEAM’s activities will range from internal training sessions to on-field practice and training, thus allowing CMs the broadest range of experimentation.

Professional Development

The Professional Development committee is for anyone trying to find a foothold in their professional career path. We aim to provide committee members with career exploration programs through one-on-one networking opportunities with professionals in different industries, equip committee members with professional skills in resume building, interviewing, social networking skills, and offer career-oriented internal training and personalized inter-committee networking opportunities in addition to our three events this semester: the Foundations Fair, Mock Interview Workshop, and Recruitment Career panel.

Financial Markets Institute

Maintaining a 100% internship placement rate ever since its start, FMI distinguishes itself by offering a rigorous yet highly applicable internal training process that best positions the members to successfully break into the finance industry, namely investment banking. Throughout the semester, FMI will provide committee members with valuable resources and training to advance their careers in finance. To provide a comprehensive and rewarding experience to committee members, detailed plans have been laid out for both internal trainings and events including IB 101, Mock Interviews, and Professional Forum. Each internal training session will touch upon both the technical and behavioral aspects of the IB recruitment process, and each event will help committee members share what they’ve learned so far to all of Ascend.
